AROTIN & SERGHEI

The Viennese artist and director Alexander von Arotin is creating innovative inter-medial art projects in collaboration with the Russian stylist Serghei Victor Dubin since 1995 in Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Barcelona, Milano, Brussels and Venice. Both together are forming an artists duo publishing now their creations under the name AROTIN & SERGHEI.
They are creating utopic intermedial art events & works, integrating such diverging sectors as visual art, architecture, science, composition structures, experimental situations, kinetic constructions, video installations, sensor systems, musical, theatral & textual elements. The human body takes often a central part of the installations and appears submerged by this intermedial space.

AROTIN & SERGHEI invented in 2004 the „space-screen system“, an architectonic expression of a giant monitor-screen in various spatial dimensions, permitting to the human body to get directly confronted with the „hermetic surface of illusion“. The spatial concept of the installation is based on the "fourth wall", which is opened in the traditional architectonic situations of performances, visual art and cinema, like a window or a curtain giving place to illusionistic contemplation. Here, this concept is reversed, the "wall", is set in front of the spectator and becomes itself the place of the action, a manipulated space.
The first version of the „space-screen“ was realized by AROTIN & SERGHEI in 2005 in 6x6 meters format in the occasion of the acclaimed visual creation of Beckett’s Godot. The installation dispositive was also subject of a doctorat in the University „Ca Foscary“ of Venice 2006. Stimulated by the research and the creation of new free spaces, AROTIN & SERGHEI created since 2007 several interactive intermedial works in collaboration with renommée scientifics and cultural institutions as Ircam-Centre Pompidou Paris. „BING!“ is a central perceptive and cognitive research project since 2006. It shows an installation that reacts on real time manipulation systems.
